Theatre and Comedy

I do a bit of work in the theatre and comedy worlds. Bit of acting, bit of left field comedy, y'know.

I was awarded Arts Council England funding for my 2019 solo show Origin of the Pieces at Wilton’s Music Hall, and was developing this show to tour when the 2020 pandemic hit. It’s a show about what music is, where it comes from and why it’s so important to our species. When live work returns, I will be touring some version of this show, with further help from Arts Council England’s Developing Your Creative Practice scheme, which I was awarded in 2021.

In 2019 and 2021, I was Musical Director, Orchestrator and performer in Sean Holmes’ celebrated production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Playing to audiences of up to 1500 people per show over two seasons, and leading an interactive musical opening to the show with the crowd was enormous fun, and the Globe is such a lovely place to work. You can check out the whole show on the Globe player here.

I look forward to working there again soon!

I also do a double act show with astronomer Professor Chris Lintott (presenter of BBC Sky at Night) called Universe of Music. It’s about where music and astronomy meet, and it’s a joy to do. We have performed this show at festivals and venues across the UK including the prestigious Cheltenham Science Festival in 2019.

I've done two 60 minute solo shows which were really well reviewed at the Edinburgh Fringe, I do some comedy bits and pieces at friendly nights like The Distraction Club, I'm resident music bloke at the Alternative Comedy Memorial Society and for Robin Ince and Brian Cox's shows, and my acting bits include getting brutally murdered in a production of Mr. Kolpert and getting brutally murdered in a zombie-based short film which has yet to see the light of day (probably because my getting brutally murdered acting was too good, I guess).

In 2015, I co-created the frankly awesome kids show Annabelle's Skirtingboard Adventure with all-round comedy and writing legend Howard Read, which was described as 'a show which is unlikely to be outdone on originality anywhere else on the Fringe' by The Scotsman in a glowing 4 star review.

Here's a little teaser of the show, which we toured until 2017.

In 2017, I was part of Ugly Chief, a new show by performance artist/theatre maker Victoria Melody. We toured it around the UK in the spring on a development tour, then played for three weeks at the Battersea Arts Centre in London in October/November.

My acting agent is Royce Management.

I'm on Spotlight, too, but I can't link to that here as you need to work in casting to see it.

Meanwhile, here’s a silly bit about my growing obsession with shells (see the whole section on this site to see what I mean) that I did at the Alternative Comedy Memorial Society in March 2023.
